In the latest U.S. News & World Report ranking of the “Best Online Master's in Business Programs (non-MBA),” Rutgers Business School tied for No. 1 in the U.S. for online accounting master’s programs.

Rutgers Business School ranked No. 6 overall in the U.S. out of 213 programs offering non-MBA online master’s in business programs, No. 4 among public business schools, and No. 2 in the Big Ten. RBS also ranked No. 2 nationally for the best online master's in business degree programs that help veterans [see graduate accounting rankings].
The first and only program of its kind available entirely online, exclusively at Rutgers, the Master of Accountancy in Governmental Accounting program was created to support those entering the field and the seasoned professional.
The Master of Accountancy in Governmental Accounting program is taught by industry leaders and designed for working professionals to advance their careers in the rapidly expanding field of government financial management, accounting, and auditing. At just 30 credits, students can complete this program part-time while working or in as little as a year while fulfilling the additional credits required to sit for the New Jersey CPA exam.
“We are delighted to hear that the Master’s in Governmental Accounting Program has been recognized as the top online accounting program in the country,” said Irfan Bora, assistant professor of professional practice and director of the Master of Accountancy in Governmental Accounting. “This recognition is particularly important for our students in knowing that the academic rigor and the support services provided by RBS are recognized as one of the best in the nation. Our efforts over the years are being acknowledged in this ranking, and we hope to continue to attract future government financial leaders to our program.”
The Master of Accountancy in Governmental Accounting program and the Center for Governmental Accounting Education and Research host the annual Governmental Accounting and Auditing Update Conference. Rutgers Business School is registered with the National Association of State Boards of Accountancy as a sponsor of continuing professional education on the National Registry of CPE Sponsors. Participants at the conference can earn up to 8 CPE credit hours.
The Master of Accountancy in Professional Accounting program is a 30-credit, part-time accounting degree for those who don't have a traditional educational or professional accounting background but are seeking an advanced degree in accounting.
The program balances accounting theory and practice to prepare graduates to meet the profession's needs and make a successful career change without the increased cost of pursuing an MBA.
For those with an undergraduate degree in a business discipline other than accounting and some work experience, the professional accounting program will prepare them for a successful transition into a career in accounting.
Professor Alexander Sannella, director of the Master of Accountancy in Professional Accounting, said “The U.S. News & World Report ranking gives well-deserved recognition to our faculty, staff, and administration. This is the team that creates the program's quality and impacts the ranking. I am confident that the ranking increases our students’ pride in being a member of the RBS community as the ranking enhances the value of their degree. The ranking also adds to the continued recognition of our improvements and our efforts to increase our prominence in the academic community, the Big 10, and beyond.”
The professional accounting program focuses on careers by allowing students to attend recruiting presentations, network with alumni, and prepare for interviews. “Students can access our Office of Career Management as soon as they arrive, and it just keeps going,” Sannella said.
