Annual conference allows online government accounting students to meet face-to-face, network
The Center for Governmental Accounting Education & Research hosted the 2016 Rutgers Governmental Accounting & Auditing Update Conference at the Douglass College Center.
"This is an important conference in many ways," said Professor Irfan A. Bora, conference chair, director, Master of Accountancy in Governmental Accounting. "Not the least of which is an opportunity to show the state decision-makers that Rutgers Business School is preparing well-trained financial managers."
"This conference is also an opportunity for our online governmental accounting students to meet face-to-face, network, make professional connections," Bora continued.
Bonny Kelter, a current student in the Master of Accountancy in Governmental Accounting program attended. Kelter is also a governmental accounting professional working in financial reporting at the State of New Jersey Department of the Treasury.
"I valued hearing the treasurer's report directly from Ford M. Scudder, New Jersey State Treasurer," Kelter said. "Some of my classmates in the governmental accounting program are new to the profession; some like me, use the degree to advance our careers."
Another student said: "my classes were my training. My accounting for managers course was my introduction to financial statement analysis which I directly applied to my responsibilities."
