Assistant Professor of Professional Practice
Sarah O'Rourke is an Assistant Professor of Professional Practice with the Accounting & Information Systems department at Rutgers Business School, as well as a licensed CPA. She has been at Rutgers as an instructor since 2009, and prior to that she was a Rutgers student. She graduated with a B.S. in Accounting from Rutgers in 2003 and earned her M.S. in Professional Accounting from Seton Hall in 2005. Sarah worked in both public and private accounting prior to and during her time teaching at Rutgers. She began her career with the firm WilkinGuttenplan and stayed there in public accounting for about four years. She then worked for Metavante (now FIS) as well as Amboy Bank in their accounting departments. She also co-owned and managed a landscaping company with her husband for several years (PS Property Maintenance).
Sarah has three boys who keep her quite busy – she worked very part-time at Rutgers while her boys were younger and has been full-time at Rutgers since 2019. She feels she has really gotten to do it all - from being a stay-at-home mom to pursuing a full-time career (yes, you can do it all, as long as you are willing to give up a little sleep). She also serves as the PTA Treasurer for her local elementary school. Outside of work, she enjoys running, reading, the outdoors, the beach, and attending her boys’ sporting events.
