TEMPO Networks, LLC, is the first and only full service pan-Caribbean media and entertainment company producing and offering culturally relevant content on all media platforms (on-air, on-line, on-mobile and on the ground). Its flagship cable television network, TEMPO TV, captures and delivers the extraordinary Caribbean vibe by successfully producing and delivering Caribbean content dedicated to music, culture, travel and tourism, cuisine, and social awareness initiatives. TEMPO, envisioned by native son Frederick A. Morton Jr. (“Mr. TEMPO”), is a true celebration of Caribbean life that seeks to elevate the region. Its content, therefore, is developed to rise beyond entertainment to inspirational, progressive and educational.  TEMPO currently broadcast in 24 Caribbean islands, with approximately 3.5M viewers throughout the Caribbean and is based in Newark, NJ.

At its core, TEMPO is the embodiment of a dream made possible through the hard and disciplined work of Frederick A. Morton, Jr. It is full manifestation; TEMPO is dedicated to all the things Caribbean: music, cuisine, travel & tourism, sports, culture and more. In its Caribbean expression, TEMPO is the heart and soul of a new approach that seeks to capture the essence and salience of culture from a Pan-Caribbean perspective and delivering that culture and artistic expressions to nationals and others in the Caribbean, the Diaspora and those millions of people worldwide who love all things Caribbean. TEMPO is forward-looking in that it puts front and center a practical, professional approach to cultivate, propagate, and promote all aspects of the Caribbean cultural industry.

Dr. Tendai Ndoro initially met with the client Frederick A. Morton, Jr. who is the Founder, Chairman & CEO of TEMPO NETWORKS at a business event in Newark, NJ on April 21.  The initial meeting with the Client resulted in another meeting on May 2 at which Dr. Ndoro conducted a needs assessment.  As an established growing business TEMPO TV Network had several needs which included:  Support for its USA Launch, including expanding Distribution with US based Cable, Satellite and Telco networks - Comcast; Cable; Time Warner; Verizon, etc; Obtaining advertising and Acquiring or purchasing a building in Newark that would be suitable for their broadcast feed.  They also needed a cable construction engineer to aid them in this process.  A referral was made to several sources and to Ms. Wanda Pendleton who is a Rutgers-Newark SBDC counselor with extensive sales and advertising experience in the cable industry. She consulted with the client and his team on how they could get advertising done, navigating the distribution rights issue and referred them to an expert engineer who had knowledge about the cable building TEMPO was considering.  It was decided it would be best for them to consider another satellite ready cable building instead of their original interest. Client is now considering this building and the Center will assist them with meeting with the SBA 504 lender. Dr. Ndoro assisted them with strategic planning, branding ideas for the US marketing and also referred them to the Rutgers Business School MBA Consulting Team.  In addition, Mr. Morton being a Rutgers Law School Alumni was recently featured this summer in the Rutgers Alumni magazine (Fall 2011, pp. 25-26).

On Saturday, July 9th, 2011 TEMPO hosted its first US based launch activity, celebrating its 6th year anniversary at 6Flags Great Adventure.  In addition, TEMPO TV Network recently secured distribution rights with leading US Cable provider, Cablevision, to air in the USA.  On September 29th, the channel launched on Cablevision to great excitement and now holds the position of Channel 1105.   TEMPOS was also accepted in the MBA Team Consulting program and are now working with them on a feasibility/marketing study in preparation for their US Launch. The MBA team consulting is conducting market research to aid the US launch of the Network, including an extensive consumer survey of the Caribbean American community in the Tri-State Area. TEMPO is also in advanced discussions to launch nationally on one of the leading US Satellite Providers (e.g., Dish Network or Direct TV) and is set to launch internationally before the end of the year in South American in Suriname, Guyana and Belize.

Mr. Morton will be recognized by the NJSBDC for his business success at the 2011 Annual Small Business Growth Succses Awards Luncheon.
