Frequently Asked Questions
Cost
Q. How much does it cost to participate in STEP?
A. STEP is funded by grants from corporate sponsors. Students participate in the program at NO COST (except for snacks, laundry, and other incidentals).
EOF Program
Q. I was placed in the Rutgers Educational Opportunity Fund (EOF) program for this summer. Can I still attend STEP?
A. No. The EOF summer program and STEP program are separate programs. However, students placed in EOF are required to attend that program as a condition of admittance to Rutgers.
Work
Q. I got a Federal Work Study award as part of my Rutgers Financial Aid package. Shouldn’t I work at a summer job instead of going to STEP?
A. If you were awarded Federal Work-Study for the school year 2011-2012, you may work during the summer. However, your earnings would be SUBTRACTED from your Academic Year eligibility. For employment procedures, please contact the Rutgers Office of Financial Aid at 973-353-5151.
Play
Q. I would rather just relax and hang out this summer. Why should I spend it taking classes, going on trips, meeting new people, and getting career information?
A. The program is for six weeks, not the entire summer. You stay in a dormitory on campus Monday through Friday and spend weekends at home. The program ends on August 10th, then you have the rest of the month to relax.
Enrollment
Q. I was accepted by Rutgers—Newark campus, but I will attend Rutgers—New Brunswick campus or some other college. Can I participate in STEP?
A. No. The program is only for those students who will definitely enroll at Rutgers Business School—Newark this fall.
Notification
Q. When will I find out if I am accepted into STEP?
A. The application deadline is May 31. Space is limited and application does not guarantee admission. STEP acceptance letters will be sent out on June 11.
