Rutgers Business School Professor Joseph Markert was featured as a speaker at the 18th Annual Garden State Council Society for Human Resource Management Conference on October 27, 2009. His presentation, entitled "Reflections on Pivot Points for Change" focused on the difficulties faced by Human Resource Managers while adapting to change in today's economy. In his presentation, Prof. Markert suggested some pivot points which help organizations adapt to change. Changing the method of conducting current services by making them more environmentally and socially responsible, changing the way you sell the services to your customers while maintaining profitability, changing the way your employees function without downsizing, and changing the method of operating business while still maintaining your mission and reputation are just a few examples."I feel that adapting to change in this economy is vital for any company that wishes to continue sustained long-term growth," said Professor Markert. "Today’s employees are de-motivated due to uncertainty in the economy and hesitant to adapting new technologies and business norms. HR plays an important role in creating and showing 'value' to the employees by providing an understanding of the changes taking place in today's economy."In its 18th year, the Society for Human Resource Management Conference focuses on significant development opportunities and adding real value in a challenging economy while managing tight budgets.
