The nuts and bolts of 1 Washington Park: parking, safety, food and more

Getting ready for the new RBS, here’s what you need to know about the move to 1 Washington Park.TransportationRU shuttlesLocated only three blocks north of the main campus, the new building is a short walk away from other Rutgers buildings. There will be two 25-passenger campus shuttles running between 1 Washington Park parking lots and Boyden Hall. The shuttle will leave 1 Washington Park parking lots approximately every 15 minutes. Broad Street StationThe Broad Street station, serviced by NJ Transit, is only a one-block walk from 1 Washington Park which is on the southwest corner of Broad and Orange Streets. The entrance to the school is on the Broad Street side of the building. Newark Light RailIf arriving at Newark Penn Station, take the Newark Light Rail to the Atlantic Street stop for easy access to 1 Washington Park, located on the southwest corner of Broad and Orange Streets. Please visit njtransit.com for schedules and maps.Safety"The Rutgers Department of Public Safety is committed to Rutgers and the surrounding community and will show that commitment through Community Oriented Policing; we will do so emphasizing our students who are our most important clients,” said Chief of Rutgers Newark Police Michael Lattimore. Public safety initiatives are being headed by the Rutgers Newark Department of Public Safety. There will be a mini precinct of RU police on the 8th floor of 1 Washington Park staffed by uniformed officers and community service officers. The department will cover the area with high visibility. Foot patrol, segway, or bike patrol officers will circulate around the building and parking lots 10 hours per day in addition to segway patrols to train stations and Light Rail stations. Green InitiativesA 12,000 square-foot green sustainable rooftop garden will help keep the building cooler in summer, reduce rainwater runoff and prolong the life of the roof itself.The RBS community is also encouraged to use the easily accessible Newark public transportation options located just minutes from the new headquarters (light rail and train stations). FoodAt the 1 Park Bistro, the RBS community will have a large new selection of delicious foods catering directly to student requests. 1 Park Bistro will feature an artisan deli, new age pizza, healthy options and international cuisine, while keeping popular mainstays such as salads, soups and burgers. 1 Park Bistro will also offer catering and express options for those who need to eat on-the-go.ParkingAll parking lots are approximately a 5-10 minute walk to the building. Faculty & Staff parking will be in lot 506, with student parking in 509 (Located at Orange and the west side of Eagle Street) and 509A (Located at Orange and the east side of Eagle Street).
