MBA Program ranks #17 in the nation for employment rate of graduates according to U.S. News and World Report
Career management initiatives, world-class faculty, and strong ties to corporations give Rutgers MBA students the competitive edge they need when entering job market.
Rutgers Business School – Newark and New Brunswick was recently ranked #17 in the country for the employment rate of its graduates 3 months after graduation by U.S. News & World Report in their ‘America’s Best Business Schools 2011 Edition’ report released April 15, 2010. This ranking is a direct reflection of the resources available to students while earning an MBA at Rutgers Business School (RBS). At RBS, students are equipped with the business, science, and technology credentials demanded by global employers to compete in changing local, national, and global markets. In an ever-changing business world, students must be prepared to adapt in different environments.
“RBS directed many of its MBA candidates to areas that were not as affected by the recent downturn: corporate finance and supply chain positions rather than investment banking, and pharmaceutical firms instead of Wall Street,” said Susan Gilbert, Associate Dean and Executive Director of MBA Program. “As the market improves we are reconnecting with Wall Street firms and new corporate partners.”
The Office of Career Management works with students to help them get the jobs they want and work hard for. “Our MBA students take ownership of their career management process,” said Dean Vera, Assistant Dean and Director of the MBA Office of Career Management. “We coach them through this process so they are competitive on paper, i.e., their resumes and cover letters, and in person at an interview.” The Office of Career Management also facilitates various mentoring opportunities between alumni and students including mock interviews, career presentations, and corporate site visits, connecting the more than 30,000 RBS alumni to current students.
One of the most effective mechanisms by which the MBA program connects high scale corporate partners with students is the Rutgers MBA Team Consulting program. In this program, MBA students apply their newly acquired skills to real problems facing firms. Past and present clients include PSE&G, Panasonic, Horizon, Roche and Verizon, as well as various nonprofit organizations and startups. “These engagements often result in employment opportunities for our MBA students,” said Associate Dean Susan Gilbert.
